Everything slows. Time stops.
The moment stretches forever. I see with crystal clarity. Maybe a dozen people nearby, faces frozen with fear.
She’s beside me, perfect eyes deep and innocent.
The small man’s shouting turns silent, frozen with everything else. I know what the wired, ugly thing strapped to his chest is. I know what I must do.
I look at my love once more before I charge.
He’s light, skinny. I bear-hug him, march him a good distance away from her.
I hope she’ll be happy again, one day.
Everything goes white.
